How rotators work: the four modes

One tracking link, many destinations. Pick the mode that decides which URL each visitor gets.

A rotator is a single tracking link that spreads visitors across several destination URLs. Create one under Rotators with Add Rotator; after saving you land in its URL panel to add destinations.

Which URLs can receive a visitor

For each visitor, a URL is eligible when it is:

  • Active, and inside its start and end dates;
  • under its click caps;
  • matching the visitor for its targeting, share limits and Min QIQ.

If no URL is eligible, the visitor goes to the rotator’s Backup URL, or gets a 404 when none is set. The mode then picks one of the eligible URLs.

The modes

ModeWho gets the visitor
FulfillmentAlways the first eligible URL in the list. It fills up to its cap, drops out, and the next one takes over. Best for delivering fixed click orders one by one.
SpilloverURLs are ordered by Priority (1 first, 9 last). A visitor's first click goes to the first URL, their second click to the second, and so on.
RandomA random eligible URL for each visitor, spreading traffic evenly.
SequentialRound-robin: each new click goes to the next eligible URL in turn.

Spillover: after the last URL

When a visitor has been through every URL, Spillover can send them to the Backup URL, keep them on the last URL, or start again from the top of the rotator.

Returning visitors

In Random and Sequential mode, choose what a visitor who clicked in the last 30 days gets: the same URL as last time, the next URL after it, or a random URL.

Randomize the order

Randomize reshuffles the URL order every N minutes (1–1,440; 60 if left empty), or on every click with Real time randomization. You can keep the first or the last URL in place while the rest shuffle.

Note

Randomizing only kicks in when three or more URLs are eligible.

Everything else works like links

Rotators have the same targeting, Mobile and iOS URLs, traffic filters, Blocked Url, blank referrers, pixels and link preview (cloak) settings as links. See Link settings explained.
