Sub IDs and URL macros

Pass campaign data through your link with sub1–sub5 and fill it into the destination with macros.

Sub IDs

Add up to five values to your tracking link as sub1 to sub5 query parameters. They are saved with the click, shown in reports and available as macros:

https://go.example.com/r/summer-sale?sub1=facebook&sub2=ad-17

sub works as a shorthand for sub1. Each value is kept up to 255 characters.

Macros in the destination

Write a macro anywhere in the Primary URL (or a rotator URL) and it is replaced before the redirect:

MacroReplaced with
{clickid}The click's unique id. Pass it to your network for postbacks.
{country}Two-letter country code, e.g. US.
{device}desktop, mobile, tablet, bot or unknown.
{sub1} … {sub5}The sub IDs from the tracking link, or empty.

For example:

https://network.example/offer?aff_sub={clickid}&source={sub1}

Tip

Always pass {clickid} to the network you promote. It is what lets a postback tie a sale back to the exact click.

How unique clicks are counted

A click is unique when it is the first counted click from that visitor’s IP address within 24 hours. The link’s Global Unique Ratio decides where that is checked:

  • Link — per link.
  • Group — across all links in the same group (per link if it has no group).
  • Account — across your whole workspace.

A repeat visitor is someone who clicked the same link or rotator in the last 30 days — that is what the Repeat URL uses. Bots and blocked clicks are never counted as unique.

Privacy

Visitor IP addresses are never stored in plain text; ClickLookup keeps a one-way hash, which is enough to count uniques and look up an IP’s history.
